4 months old

Dear Matthew,

Today you are four months old. You are getting bigger, stronger and smarter everyday. This past month has been another fun filled adventure.

You visited Secret Island for the second time for the easter long weekend. You enjoyed your first SL annual Easter Lamb Roast. All your aunt and uncles where there. It was a great family weekend, where you wore your first life jacket on the boat. You sure do love your boat rides, as you stayed awake for most of it during the crossing.

This past month you and mommy have been having lots of fun play date adventures with Lisa and her son Derek. We have gone to library circle times, baby days nurse information class where we learned all about infant food and how simple it can be to make as well has just hanging out. We have planned to get together soon but they currently have visitors from out of town and icky germs in their house.

We transformed your stroller, your car seat bucket no longer sits atop it. Mommy thought it would be fun to go for a stroll into Steveston to test it out. You seemed to enjoy being forward facing in the stroller, only a few cries but soon you just closed your eyes and fell asleep. The past two days we have gone out for walks into Steveston. We are all so happy that the weather has been so beautiful. We even bought you your first pair of sunglasses (Babiavators)

After dinner one night mommy and daddy took you on an evening stroll. Daddy wore you in the pocket sling. He now knows why mommy wears you all the time. It is so comfortable and stylish.

The past weekend we went for brunch at uncle B and auntie M’s house in Kitsilano. Auntie K and Uncle J were there too. You laughed at the right moment to Uncle J’s story which made us all question just how much you understand now. We fear you’ll have a dirty mind and mouth when you grow up. After brunch we all walked around Kits Beach. Another beautiful day.

Mommy bought you, your Exersaucer. Mom and Dad have been calling it your executive desk. You get lots of important work done there. You seem to have lots of important meetings with Señor Turtle where you appear to be listening closely to him and then either screech at, babble to or giggle at all the while flaying your arms around (we fear you may have fired him recently as you were upset at the sight of him as you slapped him across the head) You also yell and shreak at the butterflies until they play music for you. We are pretty sure they are your assistants and secretary. You take your desk top so seriously, yet have so much fun with lots of giggles and smiles. I guess that is why you are the CEO.

You grew out of your pack n play bassinet. The weight limit for it is only 15lbs so we had to transition you into your big boy crib in your room. It has not been going very well but slow and steady wins the race and you’ll figure out that your in a safe place. Mommy feels like she has a newborn again as your often up every hour during the night. She wants to give in and buy you a mini crib where you can sleep in the same room as mommy and daddy. You have always slept so well in our room. She plans on sticking with it for another week or two and if she loses her mind due to lack of sleep, mom and dad will reevaluate your sleeping arrangments.

Next month I am sure there will be lots of fun happenings. Everything from Mother’s Day, Mommy & Daddy’s 10 year anniversary and more walks and playdates as well as your 4 month immunisations shots (fun fun!) Maybe we will also take you swimming and another visit to the aquarium.

Love you to the moon and back,

Mommy and Daddy

ps. Forgot to mention the most amazing thing ever! You flipped over from front to back. Also you have started grabbing at your feet. Our little boy is growing up.

Not as crappy

I have a wide assortment of blog entries in my brain and I really want to find the time to write them all up. They all have fun topics like “a crappy entry” where I talk about our adventures in diapering or for the fact that Matthew has been all like “my stomach hurts let me fill up another diaper for you” today. I am just glad there have been no poosplosions resulting in multiple clothing changes.

The past few weeks I have been having playdates with Lisa and her adorable baby Derek. Derek and Matthew have been getting a long so well together that I do believe they are BFF’s. Matthew even let Derek put his fingers in his mouth, if that isn’t friendship I have no idea what is. It could just be a case of “Gabies” and are in deep baby love with one another.

At one of these playdates we learned all about introducing solids into baby’s diet. We even got to sample the jarred stuff versus fresh homemade food. Homemade won hands down. Planning on purchasing a small food processor or even a magic bullet type contraption in the near future.

Speaking of purchases we are buying a circle of neglect (aka Exersaucer) off Craigslist tomorrow. Can’t wait to bring it home and see the look on Matthews face when he sees his new toy! I think he shouldn’t get it quite yet as he has yet to have a good nights sleep in his own room. Only good little boys should be rewarded with new toys.

We have been trying for the past week to get Matthew to sleep on his own, in his own room and bed. It has been tough on me adjusting to these new sleeping arrangements as he has slept with me for the past year. I blame Bryan for making him go independent as he was the one to cut the umbilical cord. I do plan on sticking to it and getting Matthew to sleep on his own as he is outgrowing the pack n play bassinet and we have no other options or room to move his crib into our room.

3 months old

Dear Matthew

You are now three months old. Your dad & I cannot stop being amazed by all that you can do. You are now a rock star at holding your head up, you weigh a whopping 13 lbs 8oz and you sure love to smile, & babble (often very loudly) all the time. Your personality is really starting to show.

This past month has just flown by, here are some highlights from last 30 days..

• Leane & Alex’s wedding. You were such a champ during the wedding as it was outdoors at Garry Point Parks. There was a cold wind but the sun was out. You were all snuggled up inside your carrier (Babyhawk). Once the ceremony began you were not a happy camper. At least you managed to calm down enough so mommy could focus her attention right at the end.

• You met Madison. Mommy’s friends Kevin & Kim came for a visit from Edmonton. They brought their foster daughter Madison who is 7 months old. You spent the week hanging out with Kim & Madison going for lunches and walks around Metrorown mall. It was so much fun to have another mommy & baby to hang out with. We even all went together to the Vancouver Aquarium together. You were enjoying seeing everything in your own baby way while Madison was never happy standing still.

• Visited with Great Grandma. Mom drove you out to visit with her. She loves you so much & you love her. You are her first great grandchild. Great Grandma made sandwiches for lunch.

• Your cousin Maddox was born. Maddox is mommy’s cousin Stephanie’s daughter. She came into the world 7 weeks early weighing 3lbs 4oz. She is getting bigger & stronger everyday in the hospital. She has no major health concerns, just tiny. We cannot wait to go & meet her when she comes home.

I will have to check with your events calendar to see everything else that you have done this past month. We are currently up at the cabin for Easter. You are sleeping like a champ tonight. It wasn’t until a few minutes ago that I brought you into bed with me as you were starting to fuss and I was writing this out on my iphone. It is 4:30 am right now, you have been a great sleeper these past few weeks. Going longer & longer at night. You only seem to wake up to feed twice or three times. That third time is often to just snuggle and to have a quick snack.

I have lots of great ideas for blog entries with fun names like “a crappy blog entry” and I want to do a DITL (Day in the life) with you. Just we have way to much fun to allow me to take a moment to actually blog.

Two months

Dear baby Matthew,

Today you are two months old. I can hardly believe how fast time is moving. It still seems like yesterday when you were born & we brought you home. I don’t think I am ever going to forget those moments. This past month has been filled will adventure, both highs and lows and lots of firsts.

Highlights for the past month include:

  • First visit to the Vancouver aquarium. You enjoyed watching & tracking the belugas in the underground viewing area. We took lots of pictures of you with almost all the exhibits, dad felt you were missing out on lots of adventure because you were sleeping so he woke you up to watch the belugas and see the other animals
  • You had your last midwife appointment. Mom & dad will miss taking you for your weekly visits to Lori or Sara. They are so happy to see how much you are thriving and growing that you weighed in at 12 lbs 2 oz with diaper & clothing on. You are our delicious baby turkey.
  • Mom took you out on a last minute planned day out with the girls. All of moms closest girlfriends were there as we were celebrating your auntie Leane’s upcoming wedding. We went for lunch at White Spot and then daddy came and took you on a walk to the mall while mom & her friends got their nails done. Mommys toes and fingers sure looked pretty.
  • Mommy has also been taking you to a whole bunch of different mom & baby groups. Grandma W. even came with one time. Mom is meeting other mommies & your meeting other babies. The groups are fun.
  • Mom & Grandma W. took you to meet your Secret buddy, Ella. Ella’s grandma & mom were there too. We all had such a fun time visiting. I think you will be one of Ella’s future boyfriends
  • Your very first Secret Island trip! It was only for one night after visiting Peggy’s place on Saltspring Island for her husbands celebration of life. You behaved so well (like always) during the speeches at the celebration At the celebration you were either in mommas arms or daddy’s. When we left you got to go on your very first boat ride in grandpa d’s boat! Uncle b drove and it sure was a windy & wavey crossing but you slept the whole ride. Mommy was worried as your neck still wibble wobbles but she held you close in her babyhawk carrier with her floater coat overtop. The cabin visit was so much fun, there were two aunties, two uncles, grandma w and close family friends “the M’s” plus grandma w’s friend Bruce was there too. You slept in your pack n play almost the whole night without mommy! We are so excited to go back for Easter as we will get to stay longer!

Of course last month was not completely full of great times there was one unpleasant moment….

  • Your first emergency room hospital visit. You woke up screaming at 4am and you had a fever. The 24hr nurses line said we should take you ASAP to the hospital to get checked out. You had all sorts of tests done to figure out why you were sick, plus we wanted to rule out an infection. You had blood taken, urine sample and your nasal area flushed out. You did not like having blood drawn but the nurse was fast! The urine sample involved getting a catheter (I am sorry little man) the catheter didn’t work but as soon as it was out you laughed and started peeing everywhere! The doctor & nurse assisting were so surprised that they didn’t know what to do, so mommy took the sample cup and placed it so you would pee into it. Mommy & Daddy handled themselves so well that they didn’t cry, not even once as it was stressful. We just wanted to make sure you were going to be ok. All the tests came back normal and you got a shot of antibiotics just to be safe. You slept the rest of the day & fever was gone, but now your stuffed up a little bit.

Later on today you get your 2 month immunization shots, I am sure your not going to like that. I am sorry little man. Mommy will be taking you as it is daddy’s first day back at work since you were born.

I wonder what big adventures await us this month.

Love you lots,

Mommy
